What's New at SJV...
Welcome Deacon (soon to be) Fr. Phil!
My name is Phillip Bogacki from Saint Charles Borromeo Parish in Milwaukee and I am in my 5th year in the seminary. I was ordained to the diaconate on December 8, 2007 and will be ordained to the priesthood on August 1, 2008. Prior to entering the seminary, I received an accounting degree from Marquette University.
The most rewarding part of my time in the seminary has actually been the challenges. Seminary life gives you a very unique opportunity to explore your own life in a deep way and review how you function and what “makes you tick.” Whatever one decides to do in the long run, spending time in a seminary will be beneficial, if only for the opportunity to know oneself better. There are great challenges in the seminary and in priesthood, but Christ always gives you the grace to endure those challenges and succeed, and often in ways you’d never expect!
Archbishop Dolan has assigned the soon to be Fr. Phil to St. John Vianney Parish for the short time he is home this summer. He will move into our rectory at the end of July and stay with us until August 31. Welcome!
St. John Vianney's Power Lab Vacation Bible School (VBS) excited over 230 children recently in the Power of God's love. Over 100 teens and elementary school kids became scientists for the week to work with adult leaders to teach children about God. The students in the VBS lab...
* watched Chadder Chipmunk get himself into trouble in the laboratory and saw with God's help and lessons applied from the Bible, Chadder was able to make the right choices to do better.
* feasted on tasty snacks at Test Tube Treats each day and learned about some awesome Saints
* learned Bible stories in an interactive science lab and through participation in skits
* made awesome crafts (like slime!) every day
* played fun games outside every day
* danced and sang to Power Lab theme songs to start and end each day.
